Why Client Meetings Should Be Transparent
When I sit down for initial client meetings some of the questions I often get asked are: What can I expect during the Production Process? How do I know what the next steps are? How do you keep track of everything we discuss?
In today’s world, where people are constantly bombarded with false promises and companies that overcharge only to under deliver, having clear expectations and proper follow through are essential to client meetings and their satisfaction and retention. Over the past month the MarkUBiz team has been working on streamlining processes that allow us to better serve our clients.
Establishing A Contact During Client Meetings
When a client meeting moves into the Production Process, we first establish a contact. It is important for both the client and the company to have a consistent, person-to-person connection to keep the project moving forward.
Setting Clear (And Realistic!) Expectations
After the connection has been made, we set up a meeting to discuss the vision for the project and outline expectations based on that vision. Outlining project expectations allows us to clarify project deliverables and provide a clear and realistic timeframe.
Be honest! If you know a project will take 6 weeks to complete, tell the client that! There are many times when businesses outline hasty timelines, falsely believing that promising a quick delivery will make the client happy. In fact, one of the quickest routes to having an unsatisfied customer is being way over the expected due date.
Follow Through And Have Transparency
After you establish expectations…Follow Through! One of my favorite sayings for life and business is “Say what you mean, mean what you say.” Of course there are times when unpredictable events prevent you from meeting expectations – in our case, the server goes down, or a team member is no longer with the organization. When this happens, communicate! More often than not, clients will understand.
