Mobile Marketing Strategies to lure today’s Mobile Shoppers
Mobile Shoppers. That’s what we have become. Lean, mean mobile shopping machines! Armed with smartphones and tablets and on the move!
How pervasive is it? Consider these facts;
- 94% of Smartphone users have searched for local info
- 70% call a business after searching
- 66% visited the business they searched in person
- 90% of them acted within the first 24 hours of searching
Then consider that over HALF of ALL local searches are done on mobile devices, while 93% of local businesses websites are NOT mobile ready!
What are these Mobile Warriors looking for? According to a recent report from GoMobile Solutions;
- They need directions or Hours of Operation – 74%
- Want to contact the store – 64%
- Looking for product info – 61%
- Making a purchase – 50%
So how do you play in this new mobile game?
Mobile Website or Mobile App?
This is a question everyone is asking, and the answer is, it depends. Smartphone users in general favor browsers over apps 48% to 26%. iPhone users are more likely to use apps, but still favor browsers (40% vs. 36%).
If your goal is to market to new prospects and reach the public, then a mobile website is the better answer. If you are wanting to reach existing clients and build loyalty, then an app may be the answer.
- Broader accessibility
- Broader compatibility
- Less Expensive
- Better Shopping experience
- Client is captive, not searching
- Ability to send push notifications
- Builds brand loyalty
How does your mobile website look once they get there?
Well, if you are like 93% of small business owners whose websites are not mobile ready, these mobile shoppers are not going to like what they see. While ranking certainly matters (the top three search results receive 62% of the click through traffic), the shoppers’ mobile experience is equally important. Nearly half of mobile website users are unlikely to return to a website that they had trouble accessing from their phone and 57% will not recommend the site. Even more sobering is that 40% are more likely to use a competitor because of a bad experience on their phone.
Another consideration is the customer service aspect. More and more customers are using their phones while they are already in your store! Over a third of shoppers said that they preferred mobile phones to retail clerks for basic in-store assistance!
How does my business get mobile ready?
The first step should be to get yourself a mobile marketing strategy, which includes a mobile website. Websites that are “mobile responsive” are great, and we recommend them for our clients, but a true mobile website, designed for smartphones is a must for today’s mobile environment. They are easy to navigate, they have all of the essential information that the user is looking for right at their fingertips, and they are affordable.
